Radar FAQs

Symptoms include false alarms, delayed responses from safety features, inconsistent performance of adaptive cruise control, and incorrect detection of objects or vehicles. If you notice any of these issues, it may indicate that the radar system needs recalibration.

A properly calibrated system should operate without any false alarms or errors. You can also run diagnostic tests using an ADAS scan tool to check the alignment and performance of the radar sensors.

The calibration process includes both static and dynamic methods. Static calibration is performed while the vehicle is stationary, using specialized equipment and targets to align the sensors accurately. Dynamic calibration involves driving the vehicle under specific conditions to fine-tune the sensor settings in real-world scenarios.

Calibration should be done in a well-lit, non-reflective environment free of obstructions. Factors such as uneven floors, reflective surfaces, and improper lighting can lead to inaccurate calibration results.

After calibration, it’s important to test the vehicle’s ADAS features to ensure they are functioning correctly. This may involve a test drive under various conditions to verify the accuracy and responsiveness of the system.

Regular recalibration intervals depend on the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations and the usage of the vehicle. However, it is generally advised to check the calibration after any significant maintenance work or if you notice any issues with the ADAS features.
