What Dual Forward Radar calibration is

Dual Forward Radar calibration is one calibration the OEM requires in two coordinated phases on the same forward radar sensor.
The forward radar is the primary sensor for adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and (on many platforms) the radar half of lane keep and traffic-aware ADAS features. It is typically mounted in the grille, behind the front bumper cover, or behind a manufacturer emblem.
The first phase is a static target calibration in the bay. The vehicle sits stationary, squared and level on the floor. Precision targets, reflectors, fixtures, and reference frames are positioned to the OEM’s exact distance, height, and angle specifications relative to the vehicle’s thrust line and centerline. The radar learns its primary reference points against those targets.
The second phase is a dynamic calibration on the road. The vehicle is driven under conditions specified by the OEM position statement (set speed range, road type, lane markings, traffic conditions, lighting, weather, and minimum drive distance) so the same radar can confirm and refine its reference against real driving inputs (other vehicles, lane geometry, road signs, guardrails). On some platforms the OEM position statement requires the vehicle to follow a lead vehicle at a specified distance for a specified time before the calibration completes.
Neither phase is optional when the OEM requires both. The static phase establishes the reference. The dynamic phase confirms the reference holds at speed in real-world conditions. The calibration is not complete, and the vehicle is not safe to release, until both phases are verified to OEM operating spec with all active fault codes resolved.
