Blind Spot Assist (also called Blind Spot Monitor or Blind Spot Detection across OEM brands) uses two radar sensors mounted in the rear corners of the vehicle (typically behind the rear bumper cover, near the wheel wells) to detect vehicles in the driver’s blind spots on either side. The system warns the driver through indicator lamps in the side mirrors, audible alerts, haptic feedback in the steering wheel, and on many platforms by initiating active steering or braking input to keep the driver from changing lanes into another vehicle. On most platforms, the same rear-corner radar pair also drives Rear Cross-Traffic Alert when the vehicle is in reverse.
A dynamic calibration is performed while the vehicle is driven under conditions specified by the OEM position statement (set speed range, road type, traffic conditions, lighting, and minimum drive distance). Each rear-corner radar self-aligns against real-world reflectors (other vehicles in adjacent lanes, guardrails, road geometry) at OEM-specified speeds. The system verifies that both sensors are calibrated symmetrically, and the calibration is verified to OEM operating spec with all active fault codes resolved.
When the OEM specifies dynamic-only calibration, no static target setup in the bay is required. When the OEM specifies a static phase before the drive, the procedure becomes a dual workflow; the Brand Specialist confirms which path the OEM position statement requires for that VIN before the calibration begins.
