A 360 Around View system uses multiple cameras (typically four, mounted at the front grille, rear, and one in each side mirror) to capture the area surrounding the vehicle. The vehicle’s image processing module stitches the four feeds into a single top-down composite view used for parking, low-speed maneuvering, trailer and obstacle awareness, and the visual input that automated parking systems rely on.
For the stitched view to be accurate, each camera has to be calibrated to its OEM-specified position, angle, and lens correction. A small offset on any one camera misaligns the stitched image, distorts the apparent geometry around the vehicle, and produces blank or doubled panels in the composite view.
A static 360 Around View calibration is performed in the bay with the vehicle stationary, squared, and level. Precision target mats are positioned around the vehicle perimeter at the OEM’s exact distance, angle, and orientation specifications. Some makes and models will require the tech in-house to use the infotainment system to look and make sure the stitching and alignments of the mats on screen are properly lined up. Each camera images its corresponding target. The image processing module learns its geometric correction for each camera against the targets, the stitch is validated, and the calibration is verified to OEM operating spec with all active fault codes resolved.
When Static 360 Around View calibration is required
- Replacement of any 360 camera (front, rear, or either side)
- Side mirror replacement on platforms where the side cameras are mirror-mounted
- Front bumper, grille, fascia, or emblem replacement (whenever the front camera mounting is disturbed)
- Rear bumper, tailgate, or liftgate replacement (whenever the rear camera mounting is disturbed)
